Tax-Wise Giving: Donating Stock
You can make a bigger impact by donating long-term appreciated securities, including stocks and bonds to Impact Africa. When you sell your stock, you may incur a large tax deduction. If you choose to donate your stock, you could eliminate capital gains tax and you may also receive tangible tax savings, with the benefit of supporting our mission to serve, educate and rescue.
A gift of stock may be right for you if:
- You are holding stocks that have appreciated in value for more than one year.
If your stocks are highly appreciated, you may have a higher tax bill when you decide to sell, by using these securities as a gift, you could avoid the capital gains tax on any paper profit. - You want to maximize your deduction without affecting your liquidity.
If you decide to make a gift of stock, you could retain your cash assets, and receive a charitable tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock that you’ve owned for more than one year.
